Makueni Youth Network (MYN) challenges entrenched systems of exclusion by organizing and equipping youth-led, women-led, and PWD-led grassroots formations in Makueni County. We recognize that meaningful governance cannot be achieved unless marginalized voices are deliberately included in decision-making spaces. To this end, MYN builds the technical, financial, and organizational capacity of these groups to assert their civic rights and influence county and national priorities.
We confront structural obstacles such as elite capture of public offices, politically motivated gatekeeping, and tokenistic public participation processes. By enabling local groups to draft data-backed submissions for county planning and budgeting processes, we transform passive observers into active civic actors. Through our civic accountability programs, communities monitor budget implementation, track service delivery, and demand open governance.
We also provide legal and technical support for the drafting and submission of petitions, memoranda, and policy proposals. By institutionalizing these engagements, we push for sustained civic vigilance and ensure that duty bearers remain responsive and answerable to the public. Our interventions are grounded in the conviction that social justice, transparency, and democratic governance are non-negotiable components of sustainable development.
